CeSTII launches a new Data Request Management System for specialised and unit-level data requests

Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC)

CeSTII is pleased to announce the launch of its new Data Request Management System (DRMS). The system was designed to digitise and streamline CeSTII’s data request processes, moving away from the manual data request processes, which were highly inefficient.

The new data request system aims to bring about significant efficiencies and transparency for people requesting unit-level data from some of the Science Technology and Innovation survey data at CeSTII.

The system also aims to demonstrate the impact of CeSTII’s data and how its data are used by different stakeholders, including policy makers, researchers, NGOs, journalists and students.

Key Features of the new CeSTII DRMS:

Users looking for unit-level data that are not available from the HSRC’s eRKC curation unit can now register and submit their specialised data requests online at https://data-request.hsrc.ac.za.

The system will provide real-time notifications and users will be able to receive instant updates on the status of their data requests. This makes it easier to monitor the status of the requested data, by easily tracking the progress of requests, thereby ensuring full transparency throughout the process.

CeSTII’s new data request system will aim to deliver faster turnaround times for the unit-level data requests, which were previously inefficient.

We believe that the DRMS will enhance our ability to manage data requests effectively, improving overall efficiency and service delivery,” says CeSTII’s chair of the data committee Dr Yasser Buchanas, who, in his own time, designed and developed the system as a grassroots innovation to address a long-standing problem that CeSTII has faced.

Please take some time to familiarise yourself with the new system. Should you have any questions or need assistance, do not hesitate to reach out to the chairperson of CeSTII’s data committee on ybuchana@hsrc.ac.za
