Research Data

Cite the data supporting your research!

Creating datasets is one of many important research activities, and one that involves significant time and effort. At the HSRC we believe that researchers deserve credit and recognition for this work, and that data should be considered legitimate, citable products of research alongside other research objects. Where relevant and appropriate, we therefore encourage authors to cite data as they would cite other research objects, such as journal articles, chapters and books, in their reference lists. Citing the dataset that supported your research - by using a standard citation in the reference section of your published work -  gives credit to the data authors and makes research datasets findable and accessible.

Research Publications

Cite the research output supporting your article or research study!

Citing research output, such as journal articles, books, chapters, conference papers or reports is essential to avoid plagiarism, establish credibility, and give proper credit to the original authors. It demonstrates a thorough literature review, supports your arguments with evidence, and allows readers to verify sources or explore the topic further. Properly citing also upholds academic integrity and advances scholarly conversation.
