CALL FOR INSTITUTIONS TO HOST INTERNS 2025-27
• CALL FOR INSTITUTIONS TO HOST INTERNS 2025-27
The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) invites interested institutions to participate in the development of human capacity by applying to host interns in the 2025/27 HSRC Internship Programme. Institutions will have an opportunity to host the HSRC interns for a period of 24 months, from 01 May 2025 to 30 April 2027.
An initiative founded and funded by The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), the HSRC is responsible for the implementation and management of the HSRC Internship Programme. The programme’s overall objective is to facilitate the placement of unemployed Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) and Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) graduates in hosting institutions across the country for them to acquire practical work experience and improve their skills and competencies through active mentoring and an exposure for two years. Internship placement opportunities are also offered to successful candidates to gain experience in the Research, Development, and Innovation sectors thereby contributing to building the country’s research capacity and capabilities.
To serve as a Host Institution, your Institution must be:
- Working in the Science, Engineering and Technology (SET), Research, Development and Innovation, Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines;
- Identify mentors who have been employed at the institution in a long-term contract (at least 2 years) or in a permanent position;
- Mentors must be willing to allocate time for mentoring, training and supporting the intern;
- Have the infrastructure for the intern to work namely providing workstations, computers, and other resources including platforms for working remotely to ensure adequate work exposure for interns;
- Willing to participate in the mentor forums and training programmes provided by the Internship Programme;
- Ensure the submission of reports at regular intervals
This is a two-phase process where institutions are first invited to apply to host interns. The HSRC will advise you on how many interns your institution will be assigned. Thereafter, institutions will be asked to identify suitable candidates from the list of applications on the DSI-HSRC Internship Management System and to recommend interns for appointment according to the number of interns assigned to each institution.
