Pretoria, Thursday 23 May 2019 – The Human Sciences Research Council’s (HSRC) Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA) invites members of the media to the 2019 Africa Day Expo at Freedom Park Heritage Site & Museum, Pretoria on Friday 24 May 2019.
As part of the continent-wide Africa Month commemoration, this year’s Africa Day Expo will present citizens from all walks of life with opportunities to interact with various African Embassies, sharing of information about the continent and entertainment from African artists and cultural groups. Included will be fashion show, African art exhibition, museum tour for learners, poetry, storytelling and live cultural performances.
The day is an annual celebration of the formation of Organisation of African Unity (OAU) (currently known as the African Union) on 25 May 1963. It’s celebrated in various countries in the African continent as well as around the world.
Since its inception, the Africa Day Expo has been an educational support project initiated as a platform for presenting tangible access to relevant information about the entire continent. It forms part of the HSRC’s Africa Month commemoration which includes the annual African Unity for Renaissance International Conference.
The event is organised in partnership with Freedom Park, City of Tshwane, Kara Heritage Institute, National Heritage Council (NHC), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute (TMALI), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), International Science Council – Regional Office for Africa and Water Research Commission (WRC).

About the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC)
