Opinion: It’s hard to be a good father in SA

Research gathered over the last five years by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) and the South African Race Relations Institute (SARRI) found that 60% of South African children have absent fathers and more than 40% of mothers in the country are single parents.

Stephen Grootes reflects on the importance of father-child relationships, notwithstanding the challenges brought about by the migrant labor system which has given most father’s no choice in their involvement with their kids.
