Although Vietnam and South Africa are driven by different economic ideologies, Vietnam being driven by communist and South Africa mixed economy ideologies, there is more that the two countries can learn from each other, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Lechesa Tsenoli, told the Vietnamese delegation.
He said the relations between Parliament of the Republic of South Africa and the National Assembly of Vietnam must be translated into a diversified collaboration on a wide range of aspects of development to ensure that in the end it (the collaboration) adds value on the efforts of improving the lives of ordinary people on the ground. We must collaborate on specific things on an ongoing basis, said Mr Tsenoli.
Referring to science and technology, Mr Tsenoli said the collaboration in the field of science and technology, for example, can certainly take the work of the South African Department of Science and Technology, which works closely with the Human Sciences Research Council, to higher heights. He said the Department of Science and Technology is a resource which is used by the government to, among other things, generate explanations in simple form to ordinary people about their lives.
