WHAT COUNTS AS EVIDENCE IN MEDICINE? THE CASE OF MEDICAL MALE CIRCUMCISION

The Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WiSER) invites you to the panel discussion: What counts as evidence in medicine? The case of medical male circumcision.

Currently put forward as a way of reducing HIV infections, medical male circumcision receives a lot of attention and funding from the South African government, as well as health organisations like Brothers for Life and the Treatment Action Campaign. However, serious concern has emerged around the profile which circumcision is receiving as the way to end the HIV/Aids epidemic.
