All South African population groups at risk of hypertension, says doctor

The statement by statistician-general Pali Lehohla that hypertension is a “disease of unhappiness” that kills more whites than blacks creates a dangerous illusion for South Africans, Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa CEO Dr Vash Mungal-Singh says.

She was reacting to Mr Lehohla’s comments as he reported to Parliament’s portfolio committee on various studies this week, and said his statements were “poorly judged”.
