Invitation to institutions to host interns in 2021/23

The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in partnership with the Department of Science and Innovation takes pleasure in inviting institutions who would like to host interns and unemployed graduates to apply to host DSI-HSRC interns for a period of 24 months, commencing 01 October 2021 to 30 September 2023. The DSI funded Internship Programme migrated to the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in June 2021. 

The Internship Programme is a critical initiative aimed at ensuring that young unemployed graduates are given the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in the economy while at the same time gaining critical workplace experience aimed at enhancing your employability and future labour market outcomes.

The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) invites institutions to indicate their interest in participating in the 2021/23 DSI-HSRC Internship Programme. Institutions will have an opportunity to host the DSI-HSRC interns for a period of 24 months, from 01 October 2021 to 30 September 2023. Public and Private Research Institutions, Science Councils, Government Departments, Public Universities, and Private Sector Industries may apply to host DSI-HSRC Interns.

This is a two-phase process where in institutions are firstly invited to apply to host interns. The HSRC will advise you on how many interns you will be assigned. Thereafter, institutions will be asked to identify suitable candidates from the list of applications on the DSI-HSRC Internship Online Submission System and to recommend interns for appointment according to the number of interns assigned to each institution.

The HSRC is responsible for the management of the DSI-HSRC Internship Programme in which unemployed Science, Engineering and Technology (SET), Research, Development and Innovation, Social Sciences and Humanities graduates and postgraduates, are afforded an opportunity to acquire practical work experience and improve their competencies through mentoring and an exposure to a research environment for a period of two years. Internship opportunities are also offered to successful candidates to gain experience in the Research, Development, and Innovation sector in various positions that include management, support, and administration at qualifying institutions.
