Ramaphosa used his weekly newsletter on Monday to reflect on the fateful events of June 16, 1976, when the youth of Soweto and other parts of the country rose up against the inequality of Bantu education.

The country will be commemorating Youth Day on Wednesday. Ramaphosa says keeping the story of June 16 alive is a reminder to today’s generation of the great sacrifices made to secure their freedom.
