South Africa’s fathers are missing in action, according to Stats SA

The South African

Statistic South Africa (Stats SA) issued out its figures on the number of live birth recorded in the country in 2017, and the vast majority of babies registered last year were done so without the details of their fathers.

The latest figures show that there has been a 2.1% increase in the number of live births, compared to the previous year (2016), with a total of 989 318 new arrivals registered in 2017.

However, one detail in the report was the admission that the group were unable to make comparisons on fathers between the two periods, as the data provided on the paternal side of things was not reliable enough.
