Maths blow in rural areas

The average mathematics performance of Grade 9 pupils in South Africa has improved since 1995, but it remains “low”, says an independent international assessment study of mathematics and science released by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). Significantly, the most progress was among pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
