Employers have again called on government to do more to improve the quality of South Africa’s education system, particularly in crucial subjects such as maths and science, which they believe give the youth a better chance of finding a job.
According to the Human Sciences Research Council, South Africa’s growth is stifled by a severe skills shortage, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, maths and accounting, and this gap has largely been blamed on the poor quality of the education system.
