President Ramaphosa’s approval rating drops

Professor Narnia Bohler-Muller said the decline in support began as the national lockdown entered Alert Level 4 and South Africans faced an increase in COVID-19 infections and deaths as well as new regulations they did not always understand.

Bohler-Muller said by Level 3, the president’s popularity had dropped by 24 percent.

“Now at 61 percent approval rating, relatively high, is still higher than the president’s approval rating was prior to COVID. So it has dropped, but it’s just dropped to normal levels.”
