Ms Marilyn Couch
Research Assistant
Ms. Marilyn Couch is a Research Assistant within the Impact Centre of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). She holds a MasterĂ¢??s degree in Social Sciences, specialising in health research ethics, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). Currently, she is in the proposal development phase of her PhD, which focuses on the intersection of bioethics, human rights, and health law within public health.
In recognition of her academic contributions, Ms. Couch received the prestigious HSRC Emerging Researcher Award in 2023. She has been appointed as a health research ethics reviewer for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and serves as an Honorary Research Fellow at UKZN. Her expertise has extended to academia, where she has lectured in her field at UKZN, contributing to the development of future scholars and practitioners in health research ethics.

Ms. Couch has an impressive scholarly output, including several peer-reviewed journal articles and co-authorship of one book. She continues to expand her publication portfolio through active engagement in research projects. Her areas of academic and professional interest include bioethics, human rights, and the legal dimensions of public health, underscoring her commitment to addressing complex ethical challenges in health research and practice.
