East London, Wednesday, 14 August 2024 – The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) invites members of the media to a dialogue on the provincial key findings of the Sixth South African National HIV, Prevalence, Incidence, and Behaviour Survey (SABSSM VI) for the Eastern Cape.
The dialogue, taking place at the Premier Hotel ICC, East London on Thursday, 15 August 2024, will begin at 09:00, followed by the presentation of the findings at 10:45.
The Eastern Cape provincial report presents strategic information crucial to government officials, policymakers, researchers, programme implementers, the public and other stakeholders. This information supports initiatives aimed at managing HIV and achieving progress on the 95-95-95 UNAIDS Fast-Track targets (UNAIDS, 2015).
The event provides an opportunity for stakeholders to engage on the current status of the HIV epidemic. During the dialogue, key stakeholders will discuss the Eastern Cape results to support the uptake of findings for policy formulation, strategic information practice, and the development of provincial interventions.
The data will be presented for six priority districts within the Eastern Cape, namely: Alfred Nzo, Amathole, Buffalo City, Chris Hani, Nelson Mandela Bay, OR Tambo.
The survey was conducted by the HSRC in partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), the University of Cape Town (UCT), and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
Ends.
