As an indicator of the importance of the research that the HSRC does, an article co-authored by Allanise Cloete, Dr Leickeness Simbayi and Nomvo Henda from the HSRC and Prof. Seth C. Kalichman from the University of Connecticut was one of the top ten downloaded articles in the Aids Care journal in 2010.
The article, “Stigma and discrimination experiences of HIV-positive men who have sex with men in Cape Town, South Africa” reports on a study which examined the stigma and discrimination experiences of MSM living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
Aids Care is a monthly journal which covers psychological and socio-medical aspects of AIDS/HIV. Published by Routledge it has an impact factor (average number of citations to articles published in a specific journal in a given year) of 1.539 in 2010. This ranks it as 12th out of 33 journals indexed by Thompson Reuters in the Social Sciences, Biomedical, and 37th out of 120 journals indexed in the category of Psychology, Multidisciplinary.
