Immediate Release
25 March 20205
The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) will hold the South African Public Relationship with Science Conference on 26 and 27 March 2025 to give stakeholders an opportunity to explore the implications of the 2022 South African Public Perception of Science (SAPRS) survey results.
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Blade Nzimande, launched the survey report last year, at the annual Science Forum South Africa. The SAPRS Survey, the country’s first, was carried out by the Human Sciences Research Council to measure the general public’s knowledge of and attitudes to science.
The survey results are the culmination of more than four years of work, from conceptualising the study and developing instruments, through collecting and analysing the data, to compiling the report.
The results provide a comprehensive baseline for understanding South Africa’s progress towards becoming a science-literate and science-aware society. The conference is intended to chart the way forward.
The media are invited as follows:
Date: 26 and 27 March 2025
Time: 08:00- 16:00
Venue: Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg
Issued by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation.
