UJ to host W20 outreach dialogue on mainstreaming gender in G20 policy making to advance economic justice for young women

Johannesburg, Monday, 29 September 2025 — As a build-up to the highly anticipated W20 Summit, the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Centre for the Study of Race, Gender and Class (CSRGC), in partnership with the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), UN Women, Crtve Development, and the Africa Women Financial Inclusion Initiative (AWFII), will host the W20 Gauteng Outreach Dialogue. The dialogue will be held at UJ on Empire, 4th Floor, Corner Barry Hertzog and Napier Road on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 from 09h30 to 11h00.

Themed, Mainstreaming Gender in G20 Policy Making: Advancing Economic Justice for Young Women, the dialogue brings together leading academic institutions, international organisations, and specialised initiatives focused on women’s economic empowerment across Africa.

Panellists include:

  • Tendai Mugabe from the AWFII will focus on closing the gender gap in financial inclusion across Africa.
  • Dr Okito Wedi, fromCrtve Development will talk about youth-driven approaches to advancing economic justice.
  • Neo Mofokeng, from UN Women, will talk about linking W20 priorities to youth and gender equality, UJ Academic Leader/Student Voice: Reflections from student lived realities.
  • Lebogang Ayobiojo, UJ Community Engagement Specialist.

The programme will feature a dedicated Q&A session, allowing students to engage directly with the panellists. HSRC’s Dr Odilile Ayodele will serve as moderator.

The outreach dialogue forms part of many side events leading up to the W20 Summit, to be held at The Vivari Hotel and Spa, Johannesburg, from 12 to 14 October 2025.
