This report draws on a nationally representative survey module focused on public attitudes toward AI, fielded as part of the 2024/25 round of the annual, nationally representative South African Social Attitudes Survey (SASAS) carried out by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) since 2003. The module was designed and led by the Global Center on AI Governance, under its African Observatory on Responsible AI project (supported by the International Development Research Centre of Canada and the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office of the United Kingdom), with the Human Sciences Research Council.
