The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in collaboration with Stellenbosch University cordially invites you to join our webinar exploring the critical link between poverty, inequality, and gender-based violence perpetrated against vulnerable women in South Africa. This online event will take place on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, from 10:00 to 13:00.
How does economic vulnerability increase the risk of gender-based violence? What specific challenges do women with disabilities, older women, and women from the LGBTQIA+ community face? What economic empowerment and gender transformative strategies can effectively break the cycle of gender-based violence and femicide perpetrated against vulnerable populations of women in South Africa?
Join us as we unpack some of the findings from the first national prevalence survey on gender-based violence and hear powerful testimonies from frontline experts and survivors. Our distinguished panel will share insights on economic empowerment and gender-transformative strategies as a transformative tool for addressing systemic violence.
This interactive webinar features breakout sessions where you can contribute to developing practical strategies for economic empowerment and gender-transformative strategies tailored to vulnerable populations of women in South Africa. In alignment with Human Rights Day commemorations, we position economic security and gender transformation not just as an intervention, but as a fundamental human right.Be part of this conversation that moves beyond theoretical debates to explore actionable solutions addressing the structural roots of gender-based violence perpetrated against vulnerable populations of women in South Africa.
