The annual 16 Days of Activism is an annual campaign focused on raising awareness, influencing behaviour change and securing high level political commitment to end gender violence. The campaign promotes the importance of gender-based violence as a human rights issue at the local, national, regional and international level. This year’s theme is “Let’s challenge militarism and end violence against women”. But beyond the annual commitment, other important efforts exist to promote prevention and the ending of violence against women and girls every month. For example, since July 2012, the 25th of every month is proclaimed as Orange Day which was initiated by the UN Secretary General   and led by the UNITE campaign Global Youth Network. This seminar will share insights into the Orange Day Campaign and address efforts taking place locally to raise awareness; communicate important challenges on what we can collectively do to end violence against women and children; and stimulate discussion of how we can actively sustain the campaign to promote safe spaces for women and girls beyond the 16 Days.
