Using social media for networking and raising the profile of your research

10 February 2016
12:30 - 14:00

Education and Skills Development (ESD), in association with Learning & Development (L&D), invites you to a capacity-building seminar on the use of social media in research.

Speaker:  Dr Segundo Joaquin “Doy” Romero: School of Government, Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines

Date:     10 February 2016
Time:    12:30 to 14:00
Venue:    VCC in all three centres (Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban)

A light lunch will be provided.

Dr Romero leads the “Universities and Councils Network on Innovation for Inclusive Development in Southeast Asia (UNIID-SEA)”, which has been innovative in building a regional network of universities and research institutions. The regional network comprises 12 academic and research institutions and more than 100 individual Fellows – professors, researchers, administrators, and development practitioners – across nine countries in Southeast Asia.

UNIID-SEA has successfully used a range of social media tools to raise the profile of its projects and of the emerging research area of innovation for inclusive development (http://www.inclusiveinnovationhub.com/). Considering the growing importance of social media, this would be a good opportunity for all researchers to gain useful practical knowledge on how to effectively use social media for networking and research.
