The aim of this seminar is to get people to talk about Fukushima and Germany’s position on nuclear power with the hope that South Africans will reflect on nuclear power.

The seminar will be chaired by Dr. Charles Nhemachena

Prof. Dr. Ing. Matthias Kleiner is the President of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation), the research organization that promotes research at universities and other publicly funded research institutions in Germany. As an engineering scientist, he combined novel manufacturing technologies with the integrative cross-topic of lightweight construction. He has played an instrumental role in a number of international and interdisciplinary research projects and research networks, and in 1997 was awarded the DFG’s Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, the most prestigious award in German research. Professor Kleiner has taught at the Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus, the University of Dortmund, and is a member of numerous professional committees and academies, including the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, acatech – the German Academy of Science and Engineering, the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina and Academia Europaea.
