Since the 21st century, the People’s Republic of China (China) People’s and most African countries have built increasingly strong ties.  Trade between China and Africa increased by 700% during the 1990s, and China is currently Africa’s largest trading partner.

There are several other partnerships that have developed between the two regions such as skills training and development.  This seminar will explore current developments of Sino-Africa relations particularly in the context of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).  Since its establishment in October 2000, FOCAC has been gradually institutionalized and become an important platform for collective dialogue and an effective mechanism for enhancing practical cooperation between China and African countries.

This seminar is timely given that the next Fifth Ministerial FOCAC event will be held in South Africa in 2015.

Kindly RSVP by 20 October 2014.
