There is strong, varied and exciting research being done at the HSRC in the social sciences and humanities. This series offers an opportunity to consider this work in the context of growing debates on decolonising and transcending traditional research methods. While the seminars challenge the universality of Western modes of knowing and researching, they seek to do so in a non-binary way. Contemporary ‘Western’ qualitative research such as participatory action research, feminist research methodologies, critical inquiry poetry, photography and other visual communication methods remain valid and offer analytic alternatives that better allow us to understand our contexts.

The seminars are aimed at facilitating engagement between the different units within the HSRC as well as others who work in these areas. The hope is that these seminars will stimulate debate and discussion, breathe new life into our scholarship and research practice framed by these methodologies and different knowledge systems.

Kindly RSVP by 18 October 2017

The HSRC seminar series is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). The views and opinions expressed therein  as well as findings and statements of the seminar series do not necessarily represent the views of DST.
