OR TAMBO THE LIBERATOR: LEARNING FROM THE EXEMPLARY LIFE OF AN ICON

19 September 2017
12:00 - 14:00

Date: 19 September 2017

Time:  12h00 – 14h00

Venues:
Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town

South Africa’s liberation struggle was driven by heroes and heroines whose contributions have not been fully recognized. In recent weeks and months, the ANC’s leadership of the country has been strongly criticised for failing to emulate the example set by struggle icons such as OR Tambo. Although OR Tambo has been remembered and commemorated through memorials and the naming of institutions in his honour, many South Africans, especially the younger generation are not very familiar with his contributions to the struggle and/or his exemplary life and leadership style. In this year of OR Tambo, the National Heritage Council will examine his struggle journey and the impact on South Africa’s freedom and on the present generation.
