Invitation to participate in an IID Policy Seminar: ‘The Role of civil society and non-government organizations in Innovation for Inclusive Development’

13 July 2017

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) in collaboration with the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) are hosting a Innovation for Inclusive Development (IID) Seminar on  the ‘Role of civil society and non-government organizations in Innovation for Inclusive Development’. The seminar will take place on 13 July at a venue (TBC) in Pretoria.

The Department of Science and Technology intends to have a deliberate and focused engagement with civil society organizations active in the STI sector.  This engagement will enable the Department of Science and Technology and its entities to better understand the scope and extent of STI activities led and initiated by civil society organizations; better understand the capacity and resource requirements of these organizations in contributing towards an inclusive and responsive system of innovation as well as existing models and frameworks used by such organizations in ensuring that STI contributes in achieving inclusive development.

On this basis, the Department of Science and Technology and the National Science and Technology Forum would like to invite you to participate in a session on “the role of civil society in achieving an inclusive and responsive system of innovation”.  In order to attend you need to be an organization that meets some of these basic criteria:

1.    Core activity in STI public engagement and technology transfer.
2.    Contributing to the dissemination and application of scientific and technical knowledge.
3.    Support research, development and innovation activities, particularly in communities and the informal sector.

We would be greatly honoured by your participation. Kindly respond on or before 10 July 2017 and submit the attached completed registration form to Carolina Roscigno (Croscigno@hsrc.ac.za) or Arlene Grossberg (acgrossberg@hsrc.ac.za).
