Introduction and moderation: Dr Nadia Sanger, HSRC Poet: Ms Busiswa Gqulu Presentations:
This seminar, presented by some of the key feminist and gender scholars in South Africa, aims to interrogate the issues from a variety of perspectives brought about by the globalisation of African sexualities research. Secondly, the seminar will articulate African feminist alternatives to researching sexualities in the “south” particularly in the current age of AIDS, that foreground the patriarchal and neo-colonial discourses that emerge from northern scholarship and to begin to map out some issues for research and debate with our western counterparts. Thirdly, this seminar will engage on a practical, theoretical and policy level and take into account the broad social context of conducting research into sexualities in the context of key programmatic areas in our developing democracy.
