Developing South Africa’s Labour Market Intelligence System: Lessons from international best practice

Students and teaching staff from your institution are invited to a seminar titled:  “Developing South Africa’s Labour Market Information System: Lessons from international best practise” to be held:

  • on 25 March 2013 from 11h00 to 12h30 to be followed by a snack lunch.
  • at the HSRC offices in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town (These centres will be linked by video-conferencing)

Our speaker will be Dr Marcus Powell (CEI: International) who has wide international experience as a skills development and labour market systems consultant in Africa and South-East Asia. He has worked with  a wide range of institutions such as the International Labour Organisation, the European Union, the OECD, AusAid. We have attached a resume of his CV for your interest.

This seminar is linked to the Labour Market Intelligence Project (LMIP) which is a major joint research initiative of the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and the Human Sciences Research Council. The LMIP is a comprehensive three year program aimed at supporting the DHET to develop a labour market intelligence system for skills planning. We have attached a project brochure for your interest.

The intention of this exploratory workshop is to begin bringing the field of labour market studies and labour market systems to the attention of higher education institutions and researchers.  We have attached an information brief which explains why it is important to grow this field of research.
