Mr Zaakhir Asmal
Zaakhir Asmal is a Research Manager in the HSRC's Equitable Education and Economies division. He holds a Master's degree in Economic Science (with distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand. He has over ten years of experience in conducting research related to the South African economy, labour markets and skills development. He has previously been employed as a Research Officer at the Development Policy Research Unit at the University of Cape Town as well as a consultant at the economics consulting firm Genesis Analytics. Recently, he has contributed to the Department of Higher Education and Training's Labour Market Intelligence (LMI) research programme which aims to establish a credible mechanism for skills planning for South Africa. He has also contributed to research reports for the World Bank and a number of government departments including the Department of Small Business Development and the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.
