Dr Vandudzai Mbanda

Position, qualifications, expertise and current work:

Dr Vandudzai Mbanda is a Senior Research Specialist in the Equitable Education and Economies Division at the Human Sciences Research Council. Mbanda holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Johannesburg and a masterĂ¢??s degree in economics from the University of Pretoria. She is currently working in the Dynamics of Agrofood Systems and Systems (DASI) group, with the Climate Land and Agrofood System (CLAS) team, mainly focusing on the socio-economic dynamics of agrofood systems, climate change and food and nutrition security. Her research focuses on the interlinkages between socio-economic variables that include economic growth, infrastructure, education, employment, climate change, food and nutrition security, social exclusion and inclusion, poverty and inequality.

Previous and current experience and special projects:

Prior to joining the HSRC, Mbanda worked as a Senior Researcher at the South African SDG Hub at the University of Pretoria and Consultant of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as a Data Analyst on socio-economic issues.

Publications and highly relevant or major achievements/positions:

Mbanda has published more than 20 research outputs that include scientific articles in local and international peer-reviewed academic journals, book/book chapters, policy briefs and research reports. She has presented at various local and international research conferences.
