Dr Petronella Saal is a research specialist in the HSRC's Equitable Education and Economies research division. She completed a doctorate in computer-integrated education with honorary colours at the University of Pretoria (2020). She also holds an honours degree in education management, law, and policy from the University of Pretoria (2015). Saal specialises in computer-integrated education in primary and secondary schools. Her research interests are comparative education, cross-sectional studies, educational technology, and mathematics education. Before her academic career, Saal was an educator, who taught Computer Applications Technology, Economic Management Sciences, Economics and Business Studies at multi-racial secondary schools in South Africa. Before joining the HSRC in 2021, she supervised honours students in Assessment and Quality Assurance in Education and Training at the University of Pretoria. She is also a German Academic Exchange Service alumni and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pretoria.
