Ms Nomkhosi Mbatha
PhD Research Trainee

Nomkhosi is a Development Studies PhD candidate at the Institute for Social Development at the University of the Western Cape where she also obtained her Master of Development Studies degree. She also holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Social Work) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Nomkhosiâ??s PhD research focuses on international migration and the informal economy in Durban and Cape Town where she explores the different practices of solidarities and how sociality is enacted between migrants and South Africans within informal economy spaces. Nomkhosi has co-authored her research focusing on waithood and the temporalities of young migrants street traders, and friendship infrastructures in transnational informal markets. She is passionate about livelihoods, informal economy, migration, youth issues research.
