Dr Bernard Hlalele
Chief Research Specialist

Dr. Bernard Moeketsi Hlalele is an esteemed academic and researcher with a diverse educational background spanning several institutions. He commenced his academic journey at the National University of Lesotho, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Mathematics and Physics in 2003. Following this, Dr. Hlalele pursued further studies, obtaining a Bachelor of Technology in Project Management from the Central University of Technology, Free State in 2008. In 2012, Dr. Hlalele deepened his expertise in Mathematics education by completing a Bachelor of Education Honors degree at North-West University. Building upon this foundation, he expanded his academic horizons by focusing into disaster risk management, obtaining an Advanced Diploma from the University of the Free State in 2013, followed by a Master's degree in 2014. Undeterred by challenges, he pursued his academic endeavours relentlessly, culminating in the completion of his Ph.D. in Disaster Management at the University of the Free State from 2016 to 2018.

Dr. Hlalele's professional memberships in esteemed organizations such as the Association for Mathematics Education of South Africa (AMESA), the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Disaster Management Institute of Southern Africa (DMISA) attest to his standing as a respected scholar in his field. Furthermore, his certifications in Core Humanitarian, Security Risk Management, and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) in Emergencies highlight his expertise in addressing contemporary challenges. Dr. Hlalele's prolific academic career is further proven by his extensive publications (28 articles), 9 seminar presentations, and 37 conference paper presentations, reflecting his active engagement in scholarly discourse. Furthermore, his commitment to mentorship is evidenced by his supervision of three Ph.D. candidates and eleven Masters students to completion, nurturing the next generation of scholars.
