Kimberley, Sunday, 29 September 2024 – The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) will release the key provincial findings of the Sixth South African National HIV, Prevalence, Incidence, and Behaviour Survey (SABSSM VI) for the Northern Cape province.
The comprehensive provincial results announcement and subsequent stakeholders’ dialogue will take place on Monday, 30 September 2024, at 09:00 at the Kalahari Lodge, in Kimberley.
Marking the ninth and final instalment of the provincial dialogues, this announcement highlights key progress areas in the Northern Cape province, offering deeper insights into HIV prevalence and its driving factors. These findings will inform and guide provincial HIV programme planning and implementation.
The report further presents strategic information crucial for government officials, policymakers, researchers, programme implementers, and other stakeholders. It supports initiatives undertaken by the country to advance HIV management and achieve the 95–95–95 UNAIDS Fast-Track targets. Furthermore, it provides an opportunity for stakeholders to engage with and discuss the current state of the HIV epidemic.
The survey seeks to maintain surveillance of HIV infection and behaviour in South Africa and to obtain a better understanding of factors driving the HIV epidemic.
The HSRC conducted the survey in partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), the University of Cape Town (UCT), and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
The council has launched a provincial results dissemination roadshow, dubbed the Provincial Dialogue, which has already been successfully completed in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Gauteng North West, Mpumalanga, Free State KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape provinces. The final dialogue will take place in the Northern Cape on 30 September.
