Shanaaz Dunn is the Data Manager in the Developmental, Capable and Ethical State (DCES) division at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). Shanaaz holds a PhD (2022) and Masters (2017) in Population Studies as well as a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology (2015) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). Before joining the HSRC Shanaaz worked as the Research Manager for the DSI/NRF South African Research Chair Initiative (SARChI) in Economic Development at UKZN. Shanaaz has participated in numerous projects as a team member, particularly as a data analyst. She has gained experience in study design, developing data collection tools, monitoring and evaluation, data cleaning and curation and data analysis. Since joining the HSRC Shanaaz has worked with the team on the annual South African Social Attitudes Survey (SASAS) where she has gained key experience and training in survey data collection, data management and analysis. Shanaaz is proficient in quantitative research methodologies, data analytical programs and software. Shanaaz has published a number of peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and reports. Her research interests are broadly in the field of Demography and Population Studies.
