Mr Matume Maila
PhD Research Trainee
Equitable Education and Economies

Mr Maila is a PhD Research Trainee in the Inclusive Economic Development (IED) unit at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). His research interests include food security, climate change, and agrarian transformation. He has a strong quantitative and qualitative research background. He has demonstrated his proficiency in STATA and SPSS.

Mr Maila is a target driven Agricultural Economist with an excellent academic record and he is fully aware of the agricultural industry. Before joining the HSRC, he was part of the Young Professional Development Programme for the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries where he gained practical knowledge and a sound understanding of the dynamics within the agricultural sector. He was on the Dean?s list and holds the records of the Agriculture Economics Association of South Africa (AEASA) as the best student in BSc Agriculture (Agricultural Economics) in 2017.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Agriculture (Agricultural Economics) from the University of Venda. He has effectively contributed to several research projects since he joined the HSRC.
