HSRC Research Conference
HSRC Research Conference
HSRC Research Conference • HSRC Research Conference
The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) Research Conference 2023 takes as its theme “Next Generation Insights on Intractable National and Global Challenges”. The in-person conference will provide an opportunity for emerging researchers to develop their capabilities as the next generation of social science researchers in science communication through sharing their research which responds to real-world concerns. It also allows for the HSRC’s senior researchers to act as mentors, both before the conference and during the conference, to ensure capacity development and growth of these researchers.
The organising committee invites all junior research staff of the HSRC, employed at the level of Research Specialist/Manager and below, to submit an abstract for consideration.
Emerging researchers outside of the HSRC are also invited to submit an abstract; however, priority will be given to those who have previously attended an HSRC African Emerging Research Scholars Training Academy. The HSRC will cover the costs for travel and accommodation for external applicants if their abstract is accepted.
Submitted abstracts should call into the following broad categories:
- Poverty, unemployment, inequality and economic reconstruction
- Climate change and sustainable development
- Social determinants of global health
- Regional security, migration and conflict resolution
- Technological innovations, including AI, and their societal implications
- Education, livelihoods and the future of work
- Social crises and their solutions
- Research knowledge, policy change and governance
