Munich, Germany, Wednesday, 24 July 2024 – The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) invites members of the media to attend its satellite session at the 2024 International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024) to be held in Munich, Germany on 24 July 2024, from 18:00.
During this session, the HSRC will present the final executive summary of the latest South African HIV Prevalence, Incidence, and Behaviour Survey (SABSSM) survey, conducted in 2022/23. The presentation will encompass key behavioural indicators, HIV incidence, and HIV drug resistance.
The survey marks a significant milestone, commemorating 20 years of the series, which was first commissioned and funded by former President Nelson Mandela through the Nelson Mandela Foundation in 2002.
The programme will feature esteemed speakers from the HSRC, the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, the National Department of Health, the Office of the Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD), UNAIDS, SANAC, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The key findings of the SABSSM VI survey will provide valuable insights into South Africa’s HIV epidemic and inform the development of effective strategies to address the epidemic.
The HSRC conducted the survey in partnership with the US Centers CDC, the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), the University of Cape Town (UCT), and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), culminating in the completion of the sixth national HIV household survey (SABSSM VI).
