Taking place under the theme, Youth Development in Africa: Challenges, Solutions and the Way Forward, the AYGS 2019 Conference, co-hosted this year by the Africa Institute of South Africa in the HSRC and the Division for Internationalisation at the University of Johannesburg, will explore youth development challenges in Africa based on solicited scholarly papers from emerging academics and researchers from the continent. Participants will include young academics from Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The 2019 conference will serve as a platform for young scholars, policy makers, and key actors in the development sector to produce and share research-based knowledge about Africa’s developmental challenges.

About the Africa Young Graduates and Scholars (AYGS) conference
The annual AYGS conference is a research capacity-building project which was conceived in 2005 with the aim of building a body of knowledge and to project the African ‘VOICE’ in various discourses about the continent.
It is further intended to bridge the existing gap of expertise in knowledge production on African affairs by developing a society of knowledge producers among the youth.
The main objectives of the annual conference is to provide a platform for young and emerging scholars on the African continent to present their research on the challenges facing African societies.
