The HSRC held a dialogue on the provincial key findings of the Sixth South African National HIV, Prevalence, Incidence, and Behaviour Survey (SABSSM VI) for the Eastern Cape. The dialogue took place in East London on Thursday, 15 August 2024.
The Eastern Cape provincial report presented strategic information crucial to government officials, policymakers, researchers, programme implementers, the public and other stakeholders. This information supports initiatives aimed at managing HIV and achieving progress on the 95-95-95 UNAIDS Fast-Track targets (UNAIDS, 2015).
The event provided an opportunity for stakeholders to engage on the current status of the HIV epidemic. During the dialogue, key stakeholders discussed the Eastern Cape results to support the uptake of findings for policy formulation, strategic information practice, and the development of provincial interventions.
The data was presented for six priority districts within the Eastern Cape: Alfred Nzo, Amathole, Buffalo City, Chris Hani, Nelson Mandela Bay, and OR Tambo.
The HSRC conducted the survey in partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), the University of Cape Town (UCT), and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
