On 23 May, the HSRC hosted a book launch in its Cape Town offices for the title Poetic Inquiry for the Human and Social Sciences: Voices from the South and North. The book’s editors, Heidi van Rooyen (Executive Director, Impact Centre, HSRC) and Kathleen Pithouse-Morgan (University of Nottingham), hosted the event, which also live streamed for those beyond the room.
The fleeting event included a poetic interlude by Raphael d’Abdon, and a touching response to the book by John Guiney Yallop, who introduced the authors to each other years ago. The audience was also privy to readings by contributors, including Sarah Mackenzie-Dawson; Alexander Timothy and Anne McCarry Sullivan; Heather McLeod and Cecile Badenhorst; and Tanya van der Walt and Tamar Meskin. The close and vote of thanks was delivered by Kathleen Pithouse-Morgan.
This publication introduces new voices, insights, and approaches to poetic inquiry and integrates contributions from both the Global South and North. Each peer-reviewed chapter offers original research contributing to scholarly debates about the dynamic relationship between poetry and the human and social sciences. The book also includes captivating poetry sequences that preface each section, enhancing its literary value.
