African scholars meeting in Pretoria, South Africa, last weekend called for a more ‘Africanised’ technology and education agenda to help the continent shake off its colonial past.
The conference, which took place from 22 to 25 May, saw 100 delegates discuss the African unity agenda 50 years after the creation of the Organisation of African Unity. They also debated the continent’s vision for the next 50 years.
In a declaration that was still in a draft form when Research Africa published this story, the scholars say that the continent’s education system needs to be reformed to focus on African values.
