BDIL hosts NRF

Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC)

On the 18th February, BDIL hosted Ms Prudence Makhura, Director: Overseas Collaborative Grants and Initiatives, Knowledge Advancement and Support (KAS).  This session, was held via video conference and the presentation was focussed on bilateral & multilateral calls for 2019 – the amounts to apply for under each call, the thematic areas and activities that will be supported under each call.

The presentation highlighted priority countries in line with DST bilateral agreements.  It also highlighted the thematic areas and the modalities of engaging with other countries. A key concern raised by the researchers who attended, was that HSRC is often not eligible because of our funding model.  All of the NRF grants do not cover research time.

Applications must be submitted through an online application process to the NRF on the NRF Online Submission System at https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za/. The NRF Online Submission System opened  the 1st week of February 2019 for submission of proposals. Once a year, the European Research Council (ERC) launches a Call for Expression of Interest amongst ERC grantees to inquire about their interest to host South African early-mid career researchers in their research teams.

The ERC’s mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence. The ERC complements other funding activities in Europe such as those of the national research funding agencies, and is a flagship component of Horizon 2020.
