In the face of global trade disruptions and geopolitical tensions, Africa must leverage regional integration to diversify its exports and supply chains while increasing investment in economic infrastructure to reduce vulnerability to external shocks. Achieving this requires an understanding and application of a range of analytical tools and techniques.
As part of building this capacity, the Regional Integration and Global Partnerships Hub at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) invites you to an online training session titled Introduction to Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models for trade and regional integration, taking place on 26 August 2026. This session is the first in a two-part training programme designed to introduce participants to CGE models.
CGE models are large-scale economic and mathematical frameworks used to simulate the economy-wide impacts of policy changes and external shocks. By combining economic theory with real-world data, these models help predict how changes in one sector may affect prices, employment, trade, and household welfare across the economy. Their application is particularly relevant to Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, the African Union’s strategic framework for achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development across the continent.
The training will be facilitated by the HSRC’s Dr Nwabisa Kolisi and will cover foundational concepts as well as practical policy applications. The programme is intended for researchers, government officials, policymakers, and analysts interested in applying CGE models to address African development challenges.
