The HSRC invites you to join our experts in climate change and environmental sustainability as we welcome Dr Isaac Kabelenga from the University of Zambia (UNZA) for a presentation on the effects of drought on older persons in rural Zambia.
Research shows that drought has severely affected older men and women, including people living with disabilities, in rural Zambia. Major effects of climate change on older persons include reduced agricultural activity and yields, crop losses, hunger, rising food prices, depletion of wild fruits, malnutrition, drying natural water sources, and increasing illnesses.
While climate change poses a significant threat to older persons in rural Zambia and across Africa, its full impact remains unexplored. This webinar will present data on how climate change affects older people in rural Zambia and outline some of the interventions used by the Government of Zambia to mitigate these challenges, offering insights and lessons relevant to the broader continent.
