The Life and Times of Neville Alexander

Topic: Commemorate “The Life and Times of Neville Alexander”, thinker, scholar, political prisoner and revolutionary.

Venue: Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth.

Date: 5-8th July 2013 (inclusive).

Hosted by: the University and its Centre for Non-Racialism and Democracy  (CANRAD).

The conference is intended to stimulate critical reflection, debate and discussion, on the life and work of Neville Alexander and its relevance to contemporary local and global issues focusing on both the intellectual and practical challenges facing society.

The conference will be organized around the following themes:

1.The National Question Reconsidered

2.Language, identity and Culture 

3.Revolutionary Practice – thinking strategically about agency and social change 

4.Ethics, morality and values in post-apartheid South Africa

5.Education and Liberation 

Relevant Dates: 

Submission of abstracts: 28 February 2013

Announcement of acceptance of abstracts: 25th March 2013

Submission of Final Drafts: 25th June 2013

Note:

1.Given time constraints, provision will be made for a discussion of a selection of the papers submitted at the conference.

2.A discussion will be arranged with all authors present at the Conference to discuss the possibility of publishing the papers submitted. Authors will of course be entitled to publish in journals of their choice.
