The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) cordially invites you to a discussion on accelerating food systems transformation in Africa at the Science Forum South Africa 2024, which will take place at the CSIR ICC in Pretoria on 2 December 2024 from 9:00–12:30. The event will be hosted by the HSRC’s Africa Institute of South Africa, in partnership with the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network and Agricultural Research Council.
Titled ‘Accelerating Food Systems Transformation in Africa: Lessons from SADC Countries’, the session aims to highlight the urgent need for sustainable and equitable agricultural systems in Africa to alleviate poverty, reduce unemployment, and ensure food and nutrition security. It will explore innovative strategies and solutions, drawing insights from SADC countries like South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, and Malawi.
Key topics include the role of research and development, technology and innovations interventions, supportive policies for smallholder farmers, alongside integrating traditional knowledge, community-driven approaches, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. Gender, digital transformation, and scaling of interventions will be addressed as cross-cutting topics in all the presentations and by all panelists.
