WEBINAR | Women’s health in South Africa: Evidence for inclusive and equitable public health policy

The HSRC invites you to a seminar exploring multidisciplinary research on women’s health and wellbeing.

Women’s health is shaped by a complex interaction of biological, social, economic, and structural determinants that extend beyond individual diseases. Across South Africa, women and girls continue to experience multiple, overlapping vulnerabilities, including communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, disability, poverty, stigma, gender-based violence and unequal access to healthcare that collectively influence health outcomes throughout their life course.

Addressing women’s health therefore requires integrated, people-centred responses focused on inclusive and holistic systems and public policy.

The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) has generated substantial evidence across these intersecting areas through multidisciplinary, community-engaged research, and implementation science.  This seminar, hosted by the HSRC’s Health Innovation and Policy Research Hub, will discuss this research to stimulate dialogue between researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society on how research evidence can strengthen public health policy and improve health outcomes for women and girls.

Purpose

To explore and examine multidisciplinary research to inform more inclusive, equitable and responsive public health policy to improve health outcomes for women and girls.

Objectives

The seminar aims to:

  • To showcase research addressing women’s health through a multidisciplinary lens
  • Demonstrate the role of community-based evidence in informing equitable health policy.
  • Highlight progress and identify opportunities for collaboration to improve health outcomes for women and girls.
  • Promote dialogue between researchers, policymakers and practitioners on strengthening integrated public health responses.
